University of Queensland now home to premium fresh-food vending

University of Queensland (UQ), St Lucia students and staff can now access convenient, better food following the recent installation of fresh-food vending machines across three sites on campus.

Located at the Social Sciences and Humanities Library, the UQ Union Building (in their kitchen) and the Biological Sciences Library, FruitBar will make it easy for students and University staff to grab a quick, healthy bite to eat at any time of the day seven days a week. The machines provide a wide range of items including fruit, drinks, fresh meals, salads and snacks.

According to FruitBar Marketing Manager, Mike Evans, consumer research has shown that busy people often do not have the time to organise fresh, healthy snacks.

“This is a problem given the need for all of us to eat fresh food that is better for you,” said Mike.

“The good news is that many people across all ages are thinking more about what they eat and have access to great-tasting, wholesome food high on their agenda.

“We hope that a convenient range of better options will make it a lot simpler for students and staff to make informed snack choices.”

UQ Biomedicine student, Ryan Hall, started to access FruitBar at UQ before the beginning of Semester One and is hooked on the fresh bananas.

“I have had to move from regional Queensland to study at UQ. Together with study and part-time work, being able to buy such tasty bananas when I’m hungry is just great.”

UQ Law student, Jess Wray, is equally impressed and says she can’t go past the avocado packs.

“I never thought I would be able to buy fresh avocado packs so easily and for just five dollars! These packs are like a mini-meal.”
